Queer Clay Night - Sliding Scale Pricing
Saturday, May 25 from 7:00-9:30pm Central Time.
Join us for a 2.5-hour queer clay night in downtown Des Moines, offered on a sliding scale pricing model (see below)! This is more than just a “paint-it-yourself pottery” class, in this workshop participants will receive an unfired mug that they can carve, sculpt onto, sgraffito, underglaze, slip trail and more. Think of it as a collaborative piece between you and Nathan (the SadBoy himself). Your mug will then be bisque fired, glazed, and fired again for you to pick up 3-4 weeks later. Seats are limited to 10-people per workshop (if none of these work, join the waitlist to be the first to know of future sessions!)
Queer spaces are few and far between in Des Moines, and yet they are sacred and necessary for queer folx. These workshops are for queer-identifying people to have some fun with clay among their fellow queers. If you’re a straight, cis-gender ally, maybe purchase this as a gift for a queer friend or donate to the Community Clay Fund.
SLIDING SCALE PRICING:
Finances should not be an obstacle to spend time with other queers. Yet, queer people across the board experience higher rates of poverty than straight, cisgender counterparts. As such, these clay nights are offered using a sliding scale pricing model:
Regular price is $75.
This price represents the full cost of the class. If you are employed, own property, have regular access to healthcare or spend little time worried about paying for basic necessities, you have economic privilege and power in our community. This price is for you.
Middle Price is $50, use promo code MIDPRICE.
This price is for those who are able to pay for their basic needs but have little-to-no expendable income. If you have stable income and do not think often about accessing food, shelter, healthcare or childcare, if attending this workshop feels like a sacrifice but it does not create hardship, this price may be for you.
Lowest Price is $25, use promo code LOWPRICE.
This price is for those who struggle to meet basic needs and attending this workshop would be a significant hardship. If you qualify for government assistance for housing, food or healthcare, you live paycheck to paycheck, you have limited access to a vehicle/transportation, if you are unemployed or if you have debt that prohibits you from meeting your basic needs, this price is for you.
If none of these pricing options work for you, not to worry. The Community Clay fund will cover the cost of the workshop, just use the promo code COMMUNITY.
